To show you why what we’re experiencing is not a fluke or anomaly, but is the result of a repeatable system that is made possible by unlocking a specific aspect of buyer psychology (and specific, intentional timing AND touchpoints).

In order for both of those to be accomplished by the time you’re done reading this letter, I have to start by explaining how we got here. 

Most business owners treat their marketing like professional gamblers…

They take $1,000, throw it into a VSL funnel (like they’re throwing dice at a craps table), then hug their knees and pray to God that they close enough client revenue to 10X their investment and earn another trip to the tables.

This is commonly referred to as a “loss leader” strategy – where you purposefully pump money into an offer or product that can’t directly pay you back, but can indirectly make you money if enough leads/customers ascend into your higher cost program.

It’s also a linear growth model. And you should know one thing about us:

We do not like “linear” models.

Linear versus Exponential

Ten years ago, the new thing was “funnels.” Nobody knew what they were, but the concept was simple: 
  • Give someone a page
  • Then give them another page
  • ​Then, you guessed it, give ‘em another page
You run enough people through these daisy-chained pages, and you could get them to do things that they wouldn’t have done with just one page. Most of the market took to these “funnels” and started using them. There are a lot of reasons why they worked, but there’s one big reason why they’re not working as well as they used to: 

People are complex.

Nothing else in the world works this linearly. A tree doesn’t just grow in the ground because you put dirt on it. Cars don’t just drive because you put wheels on them. There are multiple ingredients necessary to make something complex “move.” 

We are officially exiting the era of “funnels” and entering the era of flywheels and ecosystems. If you think back to the things you’ve purchased in the last 12 months, you will most likely find a combination of many different experiences and reasons for your purchase – not just “one.” Most marketers are still laboring away trying to sell their “products” to complex individuals with diverse needs and personalities using “limited-time discounts.” I hate to break it to you, but when you do this, you are assuming your entire customer base is driven by one thing and one thing only: greed. And that is simply not the case. 

People buy for many reasons. And to the degree you can master these reasons, in combination, you will see your business flourish.

What does this have to do with the new era or marketing? Simple: we live in a world where people are moved to action (or plagued with inaction) due to the unique combination of touch points that follow scientific formulas. If you can master these formulas, you reduce a lot of the waste present in most marketing systems. 

For example: 
  • Most of our clients buy products before they become clients
  • ​Our prospects reveal what they’re trying to accomplish by the sequence (and the order) of things they purchase (and how quickly they purchase them) 
  • ​The of our best clients and customers are not interested in “FOMO” based discounts, but application for solving the exact problems they need solved right now

Funnel hacking this kind of system is nearly impossible because unless someone knows what to look for, they will fail to decode the science behind your acquisition vortex (but while they try to decode it, you will be getting paid!). 
Here’s how the old model worked: 
  • Concentration risk on Sales (if they don’t perform, you lose money) 
  • Extremely high CAC (client acquisition cost) with no safety nets in place
  • Thinning month-over-month profit margins (cutting off your ability to increase business operations in down months) 
  • SUSTAINABLE scale is impossible - if you grow a business built on this, it will be filled with stress fractures that will cause it to crumble with the increased pressure of scale
The new system protects your downside while offering a better alternative for your customers and clients:
Gone are the days of putting all your eggs in one volatile basket.
